There is zero noise insulation within the rooms, staying on level 6 we were repeatedly listening to the thunderous footsteps of our upstairs neighbours, hearing noises from the carpark on level 4 and constant sounds of rushing water through pipes through the wall that could be heard whilst laying in bed.
General maintenance and cleanliness no longer seem to be a priority. Beds were broken, mould throughout the bathroom, the carpets and couch were filthy and we found items in the kitchen which were still dirty from the previous guests.
Guest laundry for the entire hotel consists of two standard washing machines and a single dryer as the remaining dryer and washing machine were out of order.
The outdoor furniture is limited, many dirty and damaged and numerous outdoor tiles were wobbly and loose. The website photos are not an accurate representation of the hotel in its current state.
Housekeeping can be expected anytime between midday and 6:00pm. Staff were friendly enough.
Location is great and a short and easy walk into town.
Given the rates being charged for not only the room but also car parking, along with the care that the property seems to be putting into the rooms and common areas we will be staying elsewhere in future.
Apart from that, the location was excellent. We struggled to find parking in town so it was much easier to park at the accommodation and walk.
The room was huge and really comfortable, and the views over the lake were lovely. A bottle of wine on arrival was a nice touch and very much appreciated after a big travel day.
The staff were genuinely warm and helpful throughout our stay. We had a birthday cake delivered for our son and the team handled it beautifully, which made for a really special moment for him.
The main thing to be aware of before booking is that Peppers Beacon is essentially a self-contained apartment hotel. There's no pool, no restaurant and no on-site facilities beyond your room. If you're expecting the full Peppers resort experience you may find it lacking in that regard. For us it worked perfectly as a base for exploring Queenstown but it's worth knowing going in.
Would we stay again? Yes, without hesitation.
