Details

Erik's Fish and Chips is a cherished establishment in Queenstown, renowned for its authentic Kiwi interpretation of this classic takeaway. Serving customers for nearly a decade from its premises on Earl Street, conveniently close to Queenstown Bay, the venue offers a wonderfully casual and friendly atmosphere with a distinctly relaxed New Zealand vibe. Patrons have the choice of dining in their comfortable interior or enjoying their meal al fresco by the stunning Queenstown lakefront, just a brief stroll away. A significant aspect that truly distinguishes Erik's is its commitment to offering a completely gluten-free menu, making it a potentially unique establishment globally and ensuring that those with coeliac disease can enjoy nearly every item with complete confidence. The restaurant is also celebrated for its genuine Kiwi hospitality, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels like part of the family.

The culinary focus at Erik's Fish and Chips is squarely on traditional New Zealand fare, featuring freshly cooked fish encased in a light, crispy batter. Guests can select from popular fish varieties such as the mild hoki or the more robust South Island blue cod. Their homemade chips are a particular highlight, crafted from skin-on potatoes that are twice-fried to achieve a delightful crunch on the outside and a fluffy interior; kumara (sweet potato) chips also prove to be a firm local favourite. For those with an adventurous palate, the celebrated deep-fried kiwifruit, dusted with cinnamon sugar, provides a unique and memorable dessert experience, offering a delightful balance of sweetness, tang, and crispiness. The menu further extends to include deep-fried cheese rolls, calamari, mussels, and hot dogs, with most dishes being entirely dairy-free.

Erik's Fish and Chips is ideally suited for a diverse array of visitors, particularly those seeking a prompt, delectable, and authentic taste of New Zealand. The comprehensive gluten-free and halal-certified menu makes it an excellent option for coeliac diners, budget-conscious travellers, and individuals with dairy intolerances. Its informal setting and the convenient option for takeaway service make it perfect for families, groups, or solo explorers wishing to enjoy a meal by the picturesque Lake Wakatipu. Whether for a relaxed lunch, a satisfying dinner following a day of Queenstown adventures, or simply for the quintessential fish and chips experience, Erik's offers a welcoming atmosphere and delightful food for any casual occasion.

Delicious! Highly recommend visiting

Wanted to try a bit of everything & we weren’t disappointed. Fish, chips, curry sauce, potato cakes & deep fried kiwi fruit (because why not!)

Takeaway but not. Nice picnic bench seating or a small container indoor area, otherwise great to take down to the water front

Lady who served us was also very nice & service was fast!

This is an Uber order for anyone interested.

Chips were best I've had in Queenstown 👌. . . Monk fish was meh. Not because they cooked it bad it was cooked good I just find monk fish flavor to be meh lol. Fish bites were super meh but tbh I wasn't expecting too much for fish bites aka cheap offcuts battered lol. The Tartare sauce was PERFECT if you like tangy style. Overall I liked it but I think next time I will not be cheap and order blue cod 🤣🙏❤️

5 Stars though because someone drew a cute smiley face on my order and I liked it hahaha 😆

Everything is super tasty! A variety of seafood to choose from. Crunchy and juicy without being oily. Everything was so tasty we came twice in two days. Place is a little small, but enough sitting if u are a small group. Shout out to Cameron and Brenda for being so friendly and helpful. Gluten free options, vegan options and halal. Please get the deep fried pineapple rings

WOW!!! You can not miss this "off the beaten path" gem when in Queenstown! I tried the monk fish and calamari. I have been around the world and never had calamari that big!! They have indoor and outdoor seating. Sarah and Carmen were super awesome! They were kind and prompt. Try the special seasoning! No vinegar or tarter needed, that is like putting ketchup on steak. Savor the flavor.

If you love fish and chips, go here! So good that we went twice within two days and tried all the fish options. Local fish - Hoki, blue cod, monk fish, so reasonably priced. Better fish and chips than seafood restaurants and certainly better prices and portions. Inexpensive, crisp, perfect batter, wide-variety, and an expansive list of sides (vegan/vegetarian). Kumara wedges are a local sweet potato and worth the try!

In queenstown, hidden on a corner street. Yes it’s a food truck, but they have indoor seating, outdoor benches, or with a 5 minute walk - enjoy your food by the lake with an incredible view and unlimited seating!
