I cant speak highly enough of how great this was. I was very featful of heights but the whole time the staff were welcoming and reassuring. The detail they went into with safety definitely made me relax.
Everyone was super professional yet very comforting giving great advice of tackling the jump. I did Nevis at 134m and i felt in safe hands at all times. It changed my view on jumps and i cant wait to be back. Worth every dollar.
My wife's rational for doing the tantum Nevis swing over the tantum Kawarau bungee was that you get 70m freefall on the Nevis swing over the 43m freefall off of the Kawarau bridge. But that swing totally different experience from the bungee. First, with the bungee you know when the freefall is about to start because you initiate the jump. On the swing, someone presses a button, so you have no idea the the freefall will start. No matter how you prepare yourself, you aren't ready for that initial drop. Second, the start of the swing is really to reorientate you to face downward and look at the ground. For some reason I thought I would look forward during the freefall. Finally, my wife didn't start screaming until the about half way down the freefall. I think she experienced some kind of sensory overload during the initial drop. With bungee jump you get a headrush when you are done because the blood is forced to the top of your head when you get pulled back by the bungee cord. You don't get that feeling with the swing. I did my 3 jumps in 1 days back in 2003 and I felt it for sure. I am not sure at 45 y/o I could do all 3 in one day and not be affected by it. I totally forget, with the swing there is a bridge you have to WALK over. It was windy and I can feel the sway of the bridge. I really really really hated that. The bungee jump had a gondola to take you out to the jump platform.
Looking back, AJ Hackett(and all of NZ) really matured and refined their operations from 23 years ago. Back then my ride up to Nevis was done in today's crew vans and now you get a comfortable MAN TGM 4×4 bus. Back then you get suited up in a Quonset Hut and now there is an entire modern glass building with WiFi. The operational efficiency and focused on safety is still top notch. I noticed they will never disconnect 1 safety until you have a second one clipped in. Oh I wear glasses, which isn't allowed. They provide you prescription goggles so you can see your entire trip without risking losing your own glasses.
To James working at the Nevis on 2/13/2026. I promised you a picture of the old shirt from 2003 next to today's bungee shirt. You should see it in the pictures
I'll see you guys again in 31 years and get that free jump/swing. Thank you for a memorable time on both trips.
