We had the best trip with Altitude tours last Saturday 12/7/26 to Milford Sounds from Queenstown. Our tour leader Katy made the day perfect with her friendly nature and exceptional local knowledge.
Our great experience started from the booking. We had great communication from the beginning with regular emails confirming pick up locations and times and regular reminders. The group size was small (12 of us), the coach was very comfortable, lunch delicious and the boat had low numbers of passengers and plenty of room to move about.
Our family loved our day adventure and it was a highlight of our South Island holiday

Had an amazing experience on this tour to Milford Sound! Our driver Ashleigh was absolutely fantastic. incredibly knowledgeable and kept us entertained and informed the whole way there. We learned so much about the region and surrounding areas along the route.

What really stood out was the customer service. I accidentally left my bag on board the ship, and the team handled it so well. they really went above and beyond to take care of me. Truly immaculate service from start to finish. Highly recommend!

Thomas was our guide with a winsome smile and endearing personality, and made the tour really memorable. We were off to a good start with an excellent recommendation for carrot cake at Garston! The glass roof upgrade for the tour made for a special experience just admiring the clear beautiful skies and the towering beech forests that we drove past.

We stopped at several scenic locations along the way towards Milford Sounds , like Mirror Lake and Monkey Creek. My favourite experience of the drive though, was through the Homer tunnel and the winding switchbacks! That to me was the best part of the tour!

Of course, the main attraction of the day was the small seater Cruise Milford cruise. Unlike the experiences of many who complained about seeing Milford sounds packed with other cruises and passengers, we ran into none other through our journey. It could have been disappointing if we didn't see at least some wildlife sightings for this trip when others saw many. The solo seal we had encountered on seal rock stole our breaths away. The boat captain also showed some of us a video of a Great White that was sighted next to his boat a few days ago!

I chose to take the return trip to Queenstown by bus, and it still was a very enjoyable ride despite being a long day. Definitely will recommend taking the Premium Milford Sounds Tour with Glass Roof upgrade when you are in Queenstown. Oh, and check if Thomas is available as the day that you intend to book for the tour!

Our day trip to Milford Sound with RealNZ’s Business Class was exceptional from start to finish. Our driver, Stuart, was incredible. His positivity and energy really set the tone for the day. He shared so many interesting facts that the four hour drive flew by. The bus itself was very comfortable, with pillows and blankets waiting for us and a Manuka honey ginger shot that was absolutely delicious. There were large windows along with a sun roof that allowed you to absorb all the amazing views.

The stops along the way were perfectly timed. We had about 30 minutes in Te Anau for light refreshments like fruit and pastries, and the scenic stops at Eglinton Valley and Mirror Lakes were breathtaking. Eglinton Valley, in particular, looked like something straight out of The Sound of Music.

The cruise on the MV Sinbad was first-class. The staff were very hospitable and did a great job accommodating dietary restrictions (definitely mention these when you book). The food was high-quality, though portions are on the smaller side. The highlight was getting right up next to a waterfall for a 'glacial facial'!

The return trip was just as smooth, with Stuart providing chips and chocolate for the ride back. We were hesitant with the long day and drive, but everything was absolutely great and a five star experience.

We did the Milford Sound tour from Queenstown with Altitude and I have to say it was brilliant. We opted for a drive to Milford then a flight back in a fixed wing aircraft which I think was the perfect t way to do it. It was a 6 hour drive out, however that included about 2 hours of stops along the way for coffee, incredible views and photo taking. We travelled in a luxury mini coach and our guide (Thomas) kept us informed and entertained along the way. He was exceptional - a real credit to the company.

We were almost tempted to fly to Milford and back to save time, however that would have been a mistake. As impressive as Milford Sound is, the drive there is at least as impressive and possibly more so. The return flight, across the glaciers and mountains in about 45 minutes was also amazing.

I thoroughly recommend Altitude’s tour to Milford Sound. It’s five star all the way and Thomas elevates it to six star (though Google doesn’t offer that option).
